6 Major Absolute Communication Protocols Are Available at EPC!
The communication platform you choose for your application will determine the protocol of the encoders used in your system. We support our customers and distributors when an encoder has a specific communication requirement. When integrating encoders into existing systems, our expert technical support staff is available and ready to help you ensure your system is properly connected to our encoders.
6 Major Absolute Communication Protocols:
EtherNet/IP:
EtherNet/IP™ is an Ethernet communication network that provides users with the tools to deploy standard Ethernet technology (IEEE 802.3 combined with the TCP/IP Suite) in industrial automation applications.
EtherCAT: EtherCAT® is a protocol optimized for process data, using standard IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Frames. Each slave node processes its datagram and inserts the new data into the frame while each frame is passing through.
PROFINET: PROFINET® is widely used by major industrial equipment manufacturers. PROFINET RT can be used in PLC-type applications, while PROFINET IRT is a good fit for motion applications.
CANopen: CANopen® is a CAN-based communication system. It comprises higher-layer protocols and profile specifications.
BiSS: BiSS C is similar to SSI and can be used unidirectionally like SSI. Unlike SSI, BiSS C also supports bidirectional communication and operates at speeds up to 10 Mbits/sec.
SSI: Synchronous Serial Interface, or SSI, is a simple serial communications protocol designed for data transfer between computers or user terminals and smart sensors.
